Shopping Local This Christmas Time

The Latest

December Blog Post

These days life and time just seem to be shining by so fast, doesn’t it.

How are your plans shaping up for Christmas?

I did say in my previous blog post that I would make some local recommendations to shop local here on the Isle of Man.

I am aware of so many local retailers and suppliers here and have tried to include as many as possible and some of my favourites so here we go!

City Status

As Douglas now has City status ( I never thought i’d see the day) there is such a big selection from chain stores to independents.  Rather than try to mention these I would suggest you take a few hours off and go see for yourself.

Out and about in Laxey

Again, looking for something Manx then why not visit Laxey Woollen Mills.  A place where you will lose yourself in time while exploring this amazing place.  If you are looking for anything from a hand crafted jacket, scarf or gloves then this is your place.  Offering a big selection of items that will suit all budgets.  Plus you have the added bonus of the gallery. Upstairs when you will find local art created by local people.  The exhibition is forever changing with some stunning pieces of art to grace any home!

Some recent shots from the Portrait Masters

Peel offers a great range of antique shops including The Old Bonded Warehouse, be prepared to spend some time in here as there is a lot to see.  You will always be greeted by Stephen the owner with the welcome raw of the coal fire.  They really do have some beautiful items for sale in here!

Going south to Port Erin

If you are heading south then why not visit Sorrel in Port Erin.  This is where you can purchase exclusive fragrances and make hand-poured candles.  In addition to this, you can attend one of their candle-making workshops ( I love the fragrance and will be booking in early 2023!). So why not create something unique for the love of your life, I am sure they will appreciate it!!!!

An absolute go-to in Ramsey is Pure Inspiration, this store is a treasure trove of anything from Candles to unique gifts for that special person in your life.  This is a truly independent store here on the island.  The shop is owned by Carol and you will always be greeted with a very warm welcome and smile.

The Bridge Book Shop  Ramsey

Situated in Parliament Street and a sister shop to their Port Erin store although a small shop you and purchase anything from books by local authors, vinyl and a great selection of gift wrap and cards some of which do have a Manx feel to them.

Ramsey does also have a great selection of Charity Shops, be prepared to browse as you just never know.  In addition to this there is a great selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants to feed all appetites so you will never starve!

Ancient Capital – Castletown

Castletown has a range of boutique gift shops to charity shops too, although a small town there  is I am sure something to inspire plus The George Pub does some very tasty and amazing hearty food.

I know the above list is probably small. I have not managed to include as many retailers as I wanted to.  So spend a day or two exploring what our beautiful island has to offer.  I am sure you won’t be disappointed.
